Some of the healthiest looking plants I’ve seen in a while! After getting home, I immediately wished I had bought a few more. The two shop cats are an added bonus… They’re adorable and super friendly!

The entire staff was wonderful! So incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and generous. They provided plants for a veteran rebuild in the Dixie Fire burn scar, and couldn’t have asked for a better experience working with a nursery. Go see them! You won’t regret it.

★★★★★ - G+ 7/25, Villager Nursery: Wow. Thank you Mickey. Thank you for making the trek all the way down here from Greenville. You were a pleasure to work with. Kellogg garden was happy to donate the Gromulch for a worthwhile project.

I looked far and wide for a specific maple cultivar that grower JF Schmidt introduced recently, and struck out until I called them up! Eric was willing to put some of this tree on his yearly order even though I hadn’t purchased yet, and it was unknown if this cultivar would be very popular in a mountain environment.
I picked up my tree from them today. Eric was wonderful at pointing out some basic tips that would apply to growing it in the Central Valley. Was really glad I called them up.

★★★★★ - G+ 6/25, Villager Nursery: Thank you Steven. It was a great pleasure to help someone so enthused about a tree that you would drive over the hill from the valley to pick one up. JFS is a great grower and I'm sure A.rubrum 'Red Sentinel' will thrive in Elk Grove. It is thoughtful of you to leave a kind review. Thank you.

Knowledgeable, kind, and helpful staff, excellent selection of plants that are always healthy and thrive once planted. I pass two nurseries in order to shop here. Always my first choice!

★★★★★ - G+ 5/25, Villager Nursery: Thank you so much Kelly. This is a crazy time of year in our compressed mountain "spring". We are giving it our all, to offer and maintain earnest staff and interesting plants. Cheers! -e

I have nothing but amazing things to say about Villager Nursery!! They have an incredible selection of native plants and plants hardy to the region. Especially impressive for April in our climate! Not only that, but the staff were so helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. They walked us through the entire nursery and pointed out all of the natives for us, and knew the light and water requirements of each plant. We are leaving so happy and excited for our garden!!

★★★★★ - Yelp 4/25, Villager Nursery: Considering the limited late-winter plant selection as we're pulling them out of the snow, we are beyond thrilled that you found some great natives. We'll have thousands more arriving in late May. Thank you so much for the very kind review. -e

Just got a wonderful Xmas tree and a bunch of succulents. Great quality and super helpful staff.

★★★★★ - G+ 12/24, Villager Nursery: It makes it worth the efforts to hear you say so. Really. Thank YOU. All the best. -e

Great inventory of plants especially for this region. The staff is very helpful and really friendly. They make it a pleasure to shop there.

Jeannie S.
★★★★★ - G+ 6/24, Villager Nursery: 6/26/24 Thank you Jeannie. That means so much to us. You are so sweet to leave such a nice review. We do really try to have the best selection of extreme winter-hardy, snow-appropriate, mountain plants and to maintain an earnestly helpful staff.

The staff at the nursery are super helpful. The owner, Eric, is one of the most knowledgeable botanists I’ve ever met. He knows every area of Truckee-Tahoe and can tell you exactly what will grow in your micro climate. They carry a wide variety of native plants and trees.

Darren C.
★★★★★ - G+ 6/24, Villager Nursery: 6/24 Thank You Darren. We do our best at the western edge of the Great Basin Desert. It is a challenge and we've killed a LOT of plants in our own landscapes learning how best not to. We also learn daily from our amazing clients who share their experiences and give us feedback. All the best. Thank You.

Love this place, staff is so helpful and knowledgeable! I am going to attempt to grow a lawn this year and they got me all excited and confident about it. Nice to have a local place to go to get specific information on our soil and growing plants in the mountain environment.

★★★★★ - G+ 5/24, Villager Nursery: 5/24 ❤️ thank you. we do try to help. If we can do it, you can too 🙂

I came to this lovely nursery in tears this morning because I had to find a planter to bury my pup in, and April, who helped me (she approached ME, with such kindness) was so incredibly kind and helpful, and picked out a lovely wine barrel and some things to go in/on it. thank you for your help and professionalism and genius and kindness! I think it was destiny finding you all today…

★★★★★ - Yelp 11/23, Villager Nursery: Jan 9, 2024 - We are so sorry for your great loss. April is an incredibly kind human and we are so grateful that she shares her love of plants, people, and animals (and some of her time) with us.

Villager Nursery is an extraordinary nursery with a huge selection of beautiful plants that are proven to grow great in this area! Eric Larusson, the owner, has several degrees in plants and it shows. His selection of native, unusual, and hard to find plants is amazing!! April was very helpful and knowledgeable also. We drove 1.5 hours to get there and it was well worth it, I will be back soon!!

★★★★★ - G+ 10/23, Villager Nursery: 10/23 Woo Hoo! So happy you appreciated our efforts. Our selection is waning at this time in mid-Oct. but we try to maintain the widest selection of natives available. It was really fun talking plants with you. -e

The only place to go for buying plants when you live in the Truckee area. The staff are so friendly and have so much knowledge. The plants are healthy and the range is specific to growing in our area.

Kirsten K.
★★★★★ - G+ 7/23, Villager Nursery: 8/23 Thank you Kirsten. Sooo happy you're satisfied. We do try very hard to get it right. As an avid gardener, I want the nursery to be someplace I love to go.

Friendly, knowledgeable owners and staff will help you find plants that will actually survive the brutal winters and short summers here. Or they will leave you alone to wander and discover new shrubs and trees to love.

I was just looking at the strawberries I am growing with the new fertilizer Villager nursery has been selling that comes in a refillable bucket. It’s like a miracle. The man who owns this place is very kind and his employees are equally so. Go BUY PLANTS!!!

Beautiful nursery! My husband is a landscape contractor from Southern California and he loves visiting nurseries whenever we travel. This is his new favorite! Very helpful and kind staff. Gorgeous plants!

B H
★★★★★ - G+ 6/23, Villager Nursery: 6/23 It was a rough winter and the plants that survived are incredible examples of extreme winter-hardy survivors. We could not have requested a more gentle spring for recovery. Thank you! We are very gratified that he likes us. -e

Extra-special help with a gift of herbs & flowers. Floral designer Druann had great suggestions. So pleased … they even delivered! Love it!

Great selection and super helpful staff. I wouldn’t go anywhere else!

★★★★★ - G+ 8/22, Villager Nursery: 8/22 We wouldn't want you to go anywhere else either though, I have to admit, I do LOVE visiting other nurseries wherever I go. We do try so hard to help the staff will remain well educated, curious and enthusiastic. I do my best to maintain the widest possible selection of extreme-cold-hardy and native and snow-load tolerant and drought-adapted plants found anywhere in the Sierras. Thank You so much.

Lovely staff, gorgeous spot and hardy plants that easily survive Reno winters, where I live

★★★★★ - G+ 6/22, Villager Nursery: 8/22 Thank You Aaron. It is always a challenge, more so these past few years. We appreciate the compliment.

The gentleman that assisted me was very helpful. He gave me written instructions as well as verbal instructions for planting trees and flowers. I loved the flower assortment the nursery had. I can’t wait to see everything planted. Thanks!

Christy L.
★★★★★ - G+ 5/22, Villager Nursery: 8/22 Hello Christy, Gardening in this climate CAN be challenging so we TRY, very hard, to give our clients as many useful tools of knowledge to help them succeed. There is a lot more information on our website. I hope your garden is thriving through this mild summer. Thank you for the kind review. - e

It’s always really fun to wander around Villager nursery and get inspired. Knowledgeable staff and great selection of native-ish plants

David M.
★★★★★ - G+ 3/22, Villager Nursery: 8/22 Native-ish ;)... we have tons of plants "of the native vernacular" 🙂 ...but we also have THE widest selection of High Sierra natives of any nursery in the sierras. If it is available or if we can grow it (we mostly contract-grow) and it can thrive being transplanted, we'll have it. Thanks so much for the very kind review! You are appreciated too.

I just wanted to say thank you again for your thorough and informative advice via email and in person when I stopped by the nursery last week to learn more about pruning birch. I got such an education and so appreciated your willingness to dedicate so much time and energy to teaching me about my one little birch tree and how to keep it happy. It is inspiring to know that we have such an incredible resource in our local nursery here and I look forward to continuing to learn and grow new plants in our yard with your expert guidance. Thank you for being such an incredible, patient, kind and supportive resource for new Truckee gardeners like me. Smiles, – Jen R.

Villager Nursery has an amazing selection of local wild flowers and shrubs. April and Rob were extremely helpful in locating and teaching us how to plant what we were seeking.

Jack
★★★★★ - G+ 8/21, Villager Nursery: 8/21 April and Rob are usually pretty terrific at sharing their years of experience. We are delighted you found what you need. Thank you for the kind words.

Amazing selection of plants for high altitude growing. I drive over an hour from south lake at least twice a year to come here.

Carina D.
★★★★★ - G+ 7/21, Villager Nursery: 8/21 Thank you so much for making the biannual migration downstream of the lake. We TRY very hard to have everything you might need. We LOVE our natives and our extreme cold-hardy material. If it survives in Truckee it THRIVES in the Tahoe basin. Thank you so much.
