Great selection!

★★★★★ - G+ 7/6/21, Villager Nursery: 8/21 We have a buying “issue”. We like to offer EVERYTHING that can be grown here. Glad it made you happy. Thank You

Nice nursery but you can’t get in the driveway. No parking. No turnaround. Poor on street parking. So, if you could get in, it’s a nice nursery but it reality it’s a traffic jam

Michele D.
★★★ - Yelp 6/21, Villager Nursery: 8/21 We really should check this more often. I am very sorry for the delayed reply. Michele D., I am so sorry you experienced a moment when our 14 parking-lot spaces AND our 11 on-sidewalk parking spaces were full. We are a very small local nursery business in an extreme climate with less than 1/2 of an acre of shop and a packed-in, wide selection of cold-hardy plants. "All-full" parking doesn't happen very often. As a business we do almost 70% of our annual sales from mid-May until late June and the parking lot is frequently empty at all other times of the year. Your painful review was posted mid-week in June and it's possible we'd just received a large delivery of plants... that CAN tie-up a few parking spaces for several hours. We do our best to schedule plant arrivals VERY early in the morning to avoid parking conflicts but the growers and truckers sometimes just arrive when they can. Thank you for your feedback. We do know that parking is an issue here (and in most of Truckee). We knew it when we moved down to this location from up DPR in '99 but we really had no other option for relocation at that time (on the plus side, this location did allow us to plant lots of demonstration gardens). We wish there was a solution to the parking issues. Clients and customers tend to ALL come in waves at the same time. At any time of the year, late afternoon tends to be the slowest time of day in the nursery, even in the busiest part of our very brief spring season. I was just looking at my calendar: June 10th was our last night in the teens (19ºF) and June 16 (the day of your review) was 90ºF+...there may have been a little pent-up gardening enthusiasm. Again, we are so sorry for your poor experience with us.

This place is small but they do have quite a bit on site. I usually go for the basic stuff flowers and tomatoes. There is a green house I’ve never been in. I don’t even know everything they have. Also a good selection of terracotta pots for smaller plants. Succulents and cactus inside too.

★★★★★ - G+ 6/21, Villager Nursery: 6/21 Thank you for your kind sentiments. The greenhouse has a few more houseplants, accent plants for color pots, shade color, tender herbs, leafy vegetables and the entire back half is woodland / shade perennials. The nursery is on a narrow but long, 0.9 acres and there are plants, pottery and art from corner to corner including tons of trees and shrubs (Aspen, conifers, dogwoods & way more) behind (on the west side) the employee housing on site.

Fantastic selection, particularly of local plants, and fair prices. Don’t live nearby, but this is one of my favorite nurseries anywhere.

★★★★★ - G+ 6/21, Villager Nursery: 6/21 Woo Hoo! Thank You Jeffery. The nursery is a bit over-capacity right now but we have a lot of great plants. Really happy you enjoyed yourself.

I dropped in the other day asking what I could plant in my community and Tessa was super helpful. I had stopped at Perennial Nursery earlier in the week and not only were they not helpful, only wanted to water, but the girl reeked of weed.

★★★★★ - Yelp 6/21, Villager Nursery: 8/21 We do love Tessa. Our staff is pretty full of individuals who genuinely like what they are doing and who sincerely care about finding the best solution for every client's individual situation. Thank you so much for the nice comments.

Friendly, knowledgeable and helpful staff.
Good selection of gardening products.

★★★★★ - G+ 5/21, Villager Nursery: 6/21 Cheers! And Thank You Gary. We work very hard to find interesting material.

Just came from Villager about 11 minutes ago. They’re pure gold, and THE best local source for gardening information.

Bill N.
★★★★★ - G+ 5/21, Villager Nursery: 6/21 Thanks sooo much Bill. That’s such a heart-felt comment.

This place was very nice. Conveniently located off the main drag it was easy to find. They had little wagon carts to load your plants onto. The selection of plants was so wide in variety it was amazing. They had a lot of plants suited for the area to tolerate the cold and the animals. I initially was just popping in to look and before I knew it I’d left with a variety of spring and summer flowers and some mountain strawberries. The staff was very friendly and informative and very helpful and all the prices were very reasonable. Ill definitely be back for more and tell others as well.

★★★★★ - G+ 4/21, Villager Nursery: 6/21 Wow. Nice. Thank you so much and so gratified that you’re happy with us. We do work very hard at creating a great nursery experience. Sincerely, Thank You.

Everything. Can order anything you need. Hydro store not necessary. More affordable. More fun.
Much more knowledge. Great staff. Please be nice to them.

★★★★★ - Yelp 1/21, Villager Nursery: 8/21 Thanks Mickey. This year the clientele are a bit different than the 2020 crowds... much nicer, more patient, and generally gardeners seeking knowledge about our unique environment, politely asking for help and graciously thanking us for assisting them. It is also much slower and far more relaxed than 2020. Thanks for the love.

Very nice people

★★★★★ - G+ Jun 12, 2020, Villager Nursery: Jun 21, 2020 Sweet! Thanks. ❤️

Went today trying to start some landscaping. I was looking for drought tolerant types of plants. Everyone was super helpful. I felt that the prices were good and the plants were very healthy. I got a bunch of lilacs and a few other things. Will for sure come back when I’m ready to tackle more projects.

★★★★★ - Yelp 6/20, Villager Nursery: Sep 24, 2020 Thank you for the kind words. In June 2020, we were so overwhelmed helping new gardeners in this challenging region that we felt unable to offer our usual thorough customer service. We’ve tried very hard. All the best! -e

Nice stop. Grabbed a bunch of organic potting soil and was Very happy with the price.

My wife, three-year-old daughter, and myself had a fantastic experience at this nursery. They had such a huge variety to choose from that made it difficult to fit everything in our car by the time we were done. So much good stuff as and such helpful kind folks there to assist you with your gardening needs and questions:).

★★★★★ - G+ Jun 14, 2020, Villager Nursery: Jun 21, 2020 We try. So happy you had a good experience. This spring has been challenging in so many ways. Thank you. 🙂

Excellent service, thank you Eric!

★★★★★ - G+ May 25, 2020, Villager Nursery: Jun 8, 2020 Thank You Sherlyn. It’s been such a disorienting Spring and we feel that we are unable to spend as much time as we’d like helping each and every visitor / client / friend. We are extremely happy you felt served. - Thanks! 🙂

Great stuff. A bit expensive.

★★★★★ - G+ May 23, 2020, Villager Nursery: Jun 8, 2020 Having the selection of mountain, cold-hardy material that we bring in each year requires searching and purchasing very far and very wide from across the US and Canada. Some of the prices from some of our specialty plant growers surprise me, but we HAVE their plants to offer. Also, it is difficult to enumerate the myriad great and small challenges (and expenses) of having a quality retail nursery and educated staff in a remote mountain location where 20°F nights and snowstorms are frequent September through June and our “frost-free period” is 7/15-8/15. We are thrilled that you like our stuff! (Seriously). Thank You.

I discovered Villager Nursery 4 years ago. Wonderful place. Tons of great plants beautifully displayed. Knowledgeable staff. Highly recommend.

★★★★★ - FB 5/20, Villager: In spite of low early season inventory and a thinly stretched staff right now, you left a very kind review. Thank you so much. We do try very earnestly.

Open during the crisis, very knowledgeable and kind staff. Very happy to work with you no matter your experience level. As a civilian customer, with the goal of happy plants in my Sierra home, they do an excellent job. Thanks Rob and the team!

★★★★★ - G+ Apr 25, 2020, Villager Nursery: Jun 21, 2020 Rob & all feel grateful that we get to work helping people with plants. Happy we could help you. Thank you for the kind review.

We found the most beautiful little Christmas tree and they let us snap a few photos for our Christmas card this year

★★★★★ - FB 12/19, Villager Nursery: The photos are wonderful / adorable. So happy you made the most of that drizzly day. Thank you!

Ordered a gift card over the phone and they handled it perfectly…nice to know I can count on them for future gifts to Tahoe family members.

★★★★★ - Yelp 12/19

In the town of Truckee is the Villager Nursery. Not only do they sell a big variety of plants, flowers, vegetables, trees, succulents, garden art, gardening tools, supplies… they also provide landscape and design services. Super great!
They even offer classes, seminars, and workshops. The majority of them are free. The classes are taught by experienced botanists, arborists, and garden professionals. Checkout their website and Facebook for further deets.
The nursery setting is beautiful and quite peaceful to walk through. The garden art displayed throughout adds to a tranquil vibe. The pricing is on point. Not big box store cheap but not overpriced either. The staff is approachable if you have questions. During the summer there is ample enough staff walking about tending to the inventory. I observed that not all are garden pros but they will send on over folks that are to help you.

★★★★★ - Yelp 7/19

Such a great family owned business with knowledge out the you-know-what! I have been shopping there for years, always with tons of growing questions for my veggie garden. I have been pleasantly surprised by the staff, never feeling ignored. I was just reminded when I recently bought our Christmas tree how much I love this place. Normally we cut ours down but in a pinch I went to the Villager and again was happy I did!

I’ve spent hours here perusing the plants and picking the brains of the incredibly knowledgeable and friendly staff. Somehow they aren’t sick of me yet! This is one of favorite places to go in Truckee and the best nursery experience you could ask for.

★★★★★ - G+ May 9, 2018, Villager Nursery: May 17, 2018 - Libby, you are awesome! That is so nice. We love your questions and we do our best, really. Thank you!

I truly love Villager Nursery! They have an incredibly helpful and kind staff paired with hardy, yet beautiful plants, that do so well in the Sierras! I love to wander through the nursery and appreciate so much how knowledgeable and patient everyone is. I highly recommend you visiting!

★★★★★ - FB 3/18

This is by far my favorite nursery! They are my go-to place for sierra natives – knowledgeable, friendly and are eager to share their ideas and expertise! Oh, and their two cats are awesome, too!

★★★★★ - FB 2/18

The widest selection of hardy and native plants for the High Sierra, by far. Owners are botanists and plant lovers and everyone at Villager is passionate about helping customers find the right plants for their gardens. They’ve been at it since the ’70’s and have a LOT of practical experience atop their educations. “We’ve killed thousands of plants in our own gardens so our clients won’t have to” is something we heard them say. The demonstration gardens are amazing as well.
