Very knowledgeable and great staff. You can ask them anything about truck plants and they know it because there locals. Also have a great selection, we enjoyed visiting there.

Everything. Can order anything you need. Hydro store not necessary. More affordable. More fun.
Much more knowledge. Great staff. Please be nice to them.

★★★★★ - Yelp 1/21, Villager Nursery: 8/21 Thanks Mickey. This year the clientele are a bit different than the 2020 crowds... much nicer, more patient, and generally gardeners seeking knowledge about our unique environment, politely asking for help and graciously thanking us for assisting them. It is also much slower and far more relaxed than 2020. Thanks for the love.

This place was very nice. Conveniently located off the main drag it was easy to find. They had little wagon carts to load your plants onto. The selection of plants was so wide in variety it was amazing. They had a lot of plants suited for the area to tolerate the cold and the animals. I initially was just popping in to look and before I knew it I’d left with a variety of spring and summer flowers and some mountain strawberries. The staff was very friendly and informative and very helpful and all the prices were very reasonable. Ill definitely be back for more and tell others as well.

★★★★★ - G+ 4/21, Villager Nursery: 6/21 Wow. Nice. Thank you so much and so gratified that you’re happy with us. We do work very hard at creating a great nursery experience. Sincerely, Thank You.

Just came from Villager about 11 minutes ago. They’re pure gold, and THE best local source for gardening information.

★★★★★ - G+ 5/21, Villager Nursery: 6/21 Thanks sooo much Bill. That’s such a heart-felt comment.

Friendly, knowledgeable and helpful staff.
Good selection of gardening products.

★★★★★ - G+ 5/21, Villager Nursery: 6/21 Cheers! And Thank You Gary. We work very hard to find interesting material.

I dropped in the other day asking what I could plant in my community and Tessa was super helpful. I had stopped at Perennial Nursery earlier in the week and not only were they not helpful, only wanted to water, but the girl reeked of weed.

Kimberly J.
★★★★★ - Yelp 6/21, Villager Nursery: 8/21 We do love Tessa. Our staff is pretty full of individuals who genuinely like what they are doing and who sincerely care about finding the best solution for every client's individual situation. Thank you so much for the nice comments.

Fantastic selection, particularly of local plants, and fair prices. Don’t live nearby, but this is one of my favorite nurseries anywhere.

★★★★★ - G+ 6/21, Villager Nursery: 6/21 Woo Hoo! Thank You Jeffery. The nursery is a bit over-capacity right now but we have a lot of great plants. Really happy you enjoyed yourself.

This place is small but they do have quite a bit on site. I usually go for the basic stuff flowers and tomatoes. There is a green house I’ve never been in. I don’t even know everything they have. Also a good selection of terracotta pots for smaller plants. Succulents and cactus inside too.

★★★★★ - G+ 6/21, Villager Nursery: 6/21 Thank you for your kind sentiments. The greenhouse has a few more houseplants, accent plants for color pots, shade color, tender herbs, leafy vegetables and the entire back half is woodland / shade perennials. The nursery is on a narrow but long, 0.9 acres and there are plants, pottery and art from corner to corner including tons of trees and shrubs (Aspen, conifers, dogwoods & way more) behind (on the west side) the employee housing on site.

Nice nursery but you can’t get in the driveway. No parking. No turnaround. Poor on street parking. So, if you could get in, it’s a nice nursery but it reality it’s a traffic jam

★★★ - Yelp 6/21, Villager Nursery: 8/21 We really should check this more often. I am very sorry for the delayed reply. Michele D., I am so sorry you experienced a moment when our 14 parking-lot spaces AND our 11 on-sidewalk parking spaces were full. We are a very small local nursery business in an extreme climate with less than 1/2 of an acre of shop and a packed-in, wide selection of cold-hardy plants. "All-full" parking doesn't happen very often. As a business we do almost 70% of our annual sales from mid-May until late June and the parking lot is frequently empty at all other times of the year. Your painful review was posted mid-week in June and it's possible we'd just received a large delivery of plants... that CAN tie-up a few parking spaces for several hours. We do our best to schedule plant arrivals VERY early in the morning to avoid parking conflicts but the growers and truckers sometimes just arrive when they can. Thank you for your feedback. We do know that parking is an issue here (and in most of Truckee). We knew it when we moved down to this location from up DPR in '99 but we really had no other option for relocation at that time (on the plus side, this location did allow us to plant lots of demonstration gardens). We wish there was a solution to the parking issues. Clients and customers tend to ALL come in waves at the same time. At any time of the year, late afternoon tends to be the slowest time of day in the nursery, even in the busiest part of our very brief spring season. I was just looking at my calendar: June 10th was our last night in the teens (19ºF) and June 16 (the day of your review) was 90ºF+...there may have been a little pent-up gardening enthusiasm. Again, we are so sorry for your poor experience with us.

Great selection!

★★★★★ - G+ 7/6/21, Villager Nursery: 8/21 We have a buying “issue”. We like to offer EVERYTHING that can be grown here. Glad it made you happy. Thank You

Amazing selection of plants for high altitude growing. I drive over an hour from south lake at least twice a year to come here.

Carina D.
★★★★★ - G+ 7/21, Villager Nursery: 8/21 Thank you so much for making the biannual migration downstream of the lake. We TRY very hard to have everything you might need. We LOVE our natives and our extreme cold-hardy material. If it survives in Truckee it THRIVES in the Tahoe basin. Thank you so much.

Villager Nursery has an amazing selection of local wild flowers and shrubs. April and Rob were extremely helpful in locating and teaching us how to plant what we were seeking.

Jack
★★★★★ - G+ 8/21, Villager Nursery: 8/21 April and Rob are usually pretty terrific at sharing their years of experience. We are delighted you found what you need. Thank you for the kind words.

I just wanted to say thank you again for your thorough and informative advice via email and in person when I stopped by the nursery last week to learn more about pruning birch. I got such an education and so appreciated your willingness to dedicate so much time and energy to teaching me about my one little birch tree and how to keep it happy. It is inspiring to know that we have such an incredible resource in our local nursery here and I look forward to continuing to learn and grow new plants in our yard with your expert guidance. Thank you for being such an incredible, patient, kind and supportive resource for new Truckee gardeners like me. Smiles, – Jen R.

It’s always really fun to wander around Villager nursery and get inspired. Knowledgeable staff and great selection of native-ish plants

David M.
★★★★★ - G+ 3/22, Villager Nursery: 8/22 Native-ish ;)... we have tons of plants "of the native vernacular" 🙂 ...but we also have THE widest selection of High Sierra natives of any nursery in the sierras. If it is available or if we can grow it (we mostly contract-grow) and it can thrive being transplanted, we'll have it. Thanks so much for the very kind review! You are appreciated too.

The gentleman that assisted me was very helpful. He gave me written instructions as well as verbal instructions for planting trees and flowers. I loved the flower assortment the nursery had. I can’t wait to see everything planted. Thanks!

★★★★★ - G+ 5/22, Villager Nursery: 8/22 Hello Christy, Gardening in this climate CAN be challenging so we TRY, very hard, to give our clients as many useful tools of knowledge to help them succeed. There is a lot more information on our website. I hope your garden is thriving through this mild summer. Thank you for the kind review. - e

Very nice and Professional I Would recommend to others.

★★★★★ - G+ 6/22, Villager Nursery: 8/22 Thank You Aaron. It is always a challenge, more so these past few years. We appreciate the compliment.

You couldn’t find a more beautiful nursery. Customer service is some of the top in the business, the staff is incredibly knowledgeable and the inventory is a serious plant lover’s dream. A perfect piece of Zen in the mountains, we love to visit.

Great selection and super helpful staff. I wouldn’t go anywhere else!

★★★★★ - G+ 8/22, Villager Nursery: 8/22 We wouldn't want you to go anywhere else either though, I have to admit, I do LOVE visiting other nurseries wherever I go. We do try so hard to help the staff will remain well educated, curious and enthusiastic. I do my best to maintain the widest possible selection of extreme-cold-hardy and native and snow-load tolerant and drought-adapted plants found anywhere in the Sierras. Thank You so much.

Such an awesome place. More affordable than other spots in town. Extremely knowledgeable staff and friendly. Good selection of plants.

Extra-special help with a gift of herbs & flowers. Floral designer Druann had great suggestions. So pleased … they even delivered! Love it!

Beautiful nursery! My husband is a landscape contractor from Southern California and he loves visiting nurseries whenever we travel. This is his new favorite! Very helpful and kind staff. Gorgeous plants!

B H
★★★★★ - G+ 6/23, Villager Nursery: 6/23 It was a rough winter and the plants that survived are incredible examples of extreme winter-hardy survivors. We could not have requested a more gentle spring for recovery. Thank you! We are very gratified that he likes us. -e

I was just looking at the strawberries I am growing with the new fertilizer Villager nursery has been selling that comes in a refillable bucket. It’s like a miracle. The man who owns this place is very kind and his employees are equally so. Go BUY PLANTS!!!

★★★★★ - Yelp 6/23

Friendly, knowledgeable owners and staff will help you find plants that will actually survive the brutal winters and short summers here. Or they will leave you alone to wander and discover new shrubs and trees to love.

★★★★★ - Yelp 6/23

The only place to go for buying plants when you live in the Truckee area. The staff are so friendly and have so much knowledge. The plants are healthy and the range is specific to growing in our area.

Kirsten K.
★★★★★ - G+ 7/23, Villager Nursery: 8/23 Thank you Kirsten. Sooo happy you're satisfied. We do try very hard to get it right. As an avid gardener, I want the nursery to be someplace I love to go.

Villager Nursery is an extraordinary nursery with a huge selection of beautiful plants that are proven to grow great in this area! Eric Larusson, the owner, has several degrees in plants and it shows. His selection of native, unusual, and hard to find plants is amazing!! April was very helpful and knowledgeable also. We drove 1.5 hours to get there and it was well worth it, I will be back soon!!

Suzanne M.
★★★★★ - G+ 10/23, Villager Nursery: 10/23 Woo Hoo! So happy you appreciated our efforts. Our selection is waning at this time in mid-Oct. but we try to maintain the widest selection of natives available. It was really fun talking plants with you. -e
