Personally, and professionally, I had a wonderful family wedding to enjoy just-north-of London in LATE June and since the whole family came from around the world to get there, we stayed an extra week and went to the Scottish highlands. The highlands reminded me of a spectacularly beautiful combination of Kauai and British Columbia. They’re so kind and speak English but I often had no idea what they were saying. My linguist daughter had to translate for me while my youngest had us hiking ways and bens daily in the rain. NO complaints. 1000’s of waterfalls, millions of wildflowers, so much green. We went to about 25 parks and botanic gardens and I wanted to stay. We also enjoyed Scotch and a fair bit of haggis, of course.
Interestingly, the Highlands are around the same latitude as southern Alaska and northern British Columbia and the average minimum low temperatures there are similar to Nevada City. There were many common circumboreal species and many closely related genera. FIreweed and Goatsbeard were everywhere.
