Winter Weather

Happy May Day!

After a week full of rain and substantial snow, we are all looking forward to a beautiful weekend.  I almost finished the newsletter on Monday but then ran outside in the afternoon to prep. my garden beds for veggies.  I harvested carrots and potatoes that I'd forgotten in fall.  I actually planted carrots last summer to harvest this spring,  recall doing that 15 years ago and remembered the carrots being especially sweet.  They were delicious and sweet and if you ad in the surprise harvest factor, they were much sweeter.  I sent the newsletter off today.

I used Kellogg's Gromulch, Farmyard Blend Manure, Biosol, Dr. Earth, and I sprayed the garden with Maxicrop (liquid seaweed after planting) and then I spread Sluggo (iron phosphate) natural slug killer.  Yeah, I already saw slugs in the snow!

Then it snowed. We really accomplished very little in the nursery this week.  Two trucks actually made it to the nursery to deliver hardy perennials and a few more flowering tomatoes.

There were about twenty people at Sarah's Wednesday night class in spite of the HIDEOUS weather and dangerous driving conditions.  I was impressed.

We started pulling Orphan plants on Monday and didn't get very far once the raining and snowing started in earnest.  Folks came in today looking / still ice encrusted, we started pulling some again and will have much more done tomorrow.... probably should have pulled that from the newsletter.

OH- Whoa!  If anyone had bird feeders out during the storms you know what I mean.  WOW!  Many species all feeding together.

Happy May Day, Happy Gardening.
