Organic Vegetables

Yesterday (5/20) we received our first shipment of organic lettuce, tomato, basil, arugula and other various herbs and veggies from a long-time small grower.  We purchased unique vegetables from them for years before this most recent food growing frenzy but there has always been so little interest that we couldn't convince them to drive all the way up here.

They are back ant the plants are beautiful and USDA certified organic.  Our tomato, veg. and  herb growers from Chico and Glen Ellen do not use pesticides.  "Only Organic Sprays" say their tags.  I'm uploading the potato growing hand-out in a minute.

A friend told my wife the other day that "Eric told me never to plant until June".  That is not true.  I ALWAYS begin planting as soon as I see the soil.  OF COURSE you don't plant tender annuals like marigolds and impatiens.  There are so many extremely hardy annuals, perennials, shrubs and trees that gain 6+ weeks of good root growth and soil associations when planted earlier.

Cold crummy weather this weekend.  Great for raking and mulching.  My lawn looks so good.  I spread topper over the remainder of it last Sunday (after skiing at Alpine) and then mowed.  I love a newly mown lawn.  The clover and grass seedlings are starting to color up the dead spots from the vole nests and the Biosol applied last fall is giving the lawn a rich deep green.

Don't let the weather get the better of you.  Defy and rebel against the weather, dress a little warmer and get outside.
