Mountain Gardening Spring 2013
I had the unique opportunity this spring, of being in the same world but able to see it from a different perspective... I've HEARD people say that's what some fungi do for you but I got it by changing jobs. I enjoyed almost 5 weeks working with Bob and Kathy Crawford and Silvertip Landscaping. Kathy was in charge or landscaping for Villager Nursery when I began working the retail nursery back in 1984. They are wonderful people and they produce beautiful landscapes. I have a much greater appreciation of the challenges faced by landscapers of ordering plants, scheduling large mobile crews and of dealing with a different "public" than we enjoy in the nursery. I have a renewed desire for teaching and sharing with the landscaping community. Many of the landscapers to not talk to each-other. They learn by their original training and schooling and by their successes and failures. In the nursery, we test hundreds of plants each year in our own personal gardens and in our demonstration gardens. We also have the opportunity to speak to dozens of landscape contractors who shop with us and we also learn through thousands of our knowledgable clients who have thousands of individual experiences, successes and failures. Besides gardening at home (which we ALL do vigorously), we are lucky enough to garden vicariously through thousands of customers each season. Our opportunities for learning are unparalleled and we are EXTREMELY grateful!
We share our knowledge with our clients on an hourly basis and through our classes (which begin again in July), and through out website and handouts (class brochures) on our website. see "references".
