Everything listed under: fresh cut christmas trees

  • Late December Truckee-Tahoe Christmas Trees

Because we are "off the beaten path" of Truckee (far-west Brickletown & far-east Gateway) we usually BEGIN to sell Christmas trees on the Friday night that Bay-Area schools get-out for the holidays. Reno was completely sold-out last week. Truckee's Boy Scout & Optimist lots are mostly sold-out. Please visit them. When they're out, we'll still have loads of fresh, beautiful trees of all kinds along with garland, wreaths, greens and living potted trees as well.

We offer fresh-cut and sustainably harvested silvertips, dense & open noble fir, glossy nordmann fir, fragrant fraser fir, aromatic grand fir as well as living, potted spruce, pine and juniper. We have many returning clients who pick-up trees from Thanksgiving until now but our main wave of Christmas Tree customers begin arriving in ernest this Friday through Sunday - in these 3 days, we'll sell MOST of our trees. Ready. Set. Go.

Our hours vary depending on clients, business traffic and weather. We'll be open 10-6 on Sunday the 23rd and from 10-1 on Christmas Eve. We're closed the 25 and 26 and open the 27th from 11-3. After that, we'll be open again some time in March.

Call ahead if you're heading this way after 5. We are planning to stay open later on Friday and Saturday.

  • Christmas Tree Permits Still Available

Obviously, we sell Christmas Trees and it is very hard and very fun work harvesting, transporting, storing, moving, and snow-clearing. AND, we would never want to deprive a family of the adventure of going out in the forest and harvesting their own wild tree from OUR public lands under the Department of Agriculture (harvest-oriented by design).  Everyone should do it (at least once). The Tahoe basin and the Truckee Ranger district of the Tahoe NF are sold-out of permits this year but just an hour north of Truckee in the southern end of the Plumas National Forest, you can still get permits for $10 at the Beckwourth Ranger District office in Blairsden @ 23 Mohawk Hwy. (530) 836-2575. See the link above. PLEASE don't poach, the fines are huge and most of the time it defaces the beauty of our forests.

  • Silvertip Christmas Trees in Truckee

The Villager staff (all of us boys left here in late November) go out and harvests fresh, high elevation silvertip Christmas trees from snowy mountain tops.  This year we had to wait and wait until it got cold enough to harvest.  If you cut before severe cold, the trees do not hold up as well.

When the temps finally dropped, we had exactly 5 days to harvest before the monster storms of Thanksgiving 2010.  As a result we harvested fewer than usual but they were lovely trees.

While the Boy Scouts and Optimists sell through thousands of trees, the Villager usually sells about 200.  We have 50 or so folks that pre-order and we cut-to-order for them then we bring in 100 HUGE fresh Noble Fir from a great little grower, high in the Oregon coast range.  Troy (the grower) actualy measures for degrees Brix (symbol °Bx: the sugar content) of his fir and compares his to other growers.  His have far more sugar and as a result, hold more water, last longer and smell better.   The 12' trees we received this year weighed nearly 280 lbs but they were spectacular.

We ususlly sell a few trees before the 20th and the bulk between the 20-23rd.  3 busy days after uncovering these trees from snow for weeks.   We were actually running pretty low so I ran over to a friend's tree lot this morning (they have acres of land north of the Sierra Buttes) and picked up 30 trees.

At this point, we have about 20 nice silvertip Christmas Trees left.   530 587 0771   12/21/2010

I've been so lame with the blog this fall, we were soo busy, Thank Goodness!.   Rob and Eric had an epic trip to the southern Sierra to collect wild birch seeds.   Eric went to Salt Lake City to tour retail nurseries and steal great ideas.  Eric had a 50th birthday surprise party! And we are still here.  The lights are still on.

Merry Christmas to anyone who might read this!  Thanks so much for keeping us alive.
