The Villager Nursery has been a favorite place to shop and learn for more than 30 years. We specialize in the extreme cold hardy plants and natives of course. We are well respected, by our clients, colleagues and competitors, for our knowledge, ethical standards and expertise. The Sierras are beautiful in the summer and unlimited outdoor opportunities are at our doorstep.

The Villager’s goal is to provide an exceptional nursery experience for our clients. We know that this begins with hiring exceptional people. As a part of the Villager staff, you will be expected to lend your unique talents and energies to this objective. In return, you will have the opportunity to grow, learn and advance on the basis of your performance, and to develop skills, many of which will serve you well in future gardens and careers.

You need not be a gardening expert, but you must have a desire to learn. We will provide the training necessary for you to answer (or find the answer to) any mountain gardening questions. Successful Villager staff must possess is a passion to excel, a love of plants, of people and a desire to help them succeed in their endeavors.

The Villager’s owners hold advanced degrees, and many years of experience, in botany, horticulture, ecology and restoration and we have a passion to share our knowledge. In order to provide a stimulating experience for our clients and staff we need enthusiastic and interested people.

Customers visit the Villager for sound information and helpful advice so you must be honest, enjoy problem solving and have a charitable sense of humor. You must be self-inspired, very organized and patient. You must love working with plants and with people.

Through the years, we have had excellent summer help from all over the country and state from a variety of natural sciences disciplines – agriculture, horticulture, forestry, ecology, botany, biology, range management and others. We offer free class throughout the summer and staff is encouraged to attend.

General of every staff member: You will be in a fun, fast paced environment helping people match the right plants and products with the project or problem they’re trying to resolve. You work outdoors in the fresh air in a friendly environment where you can make the difference in a customer’s project from being daunting and confusing to fun and successful.

Candidates must be available to work on weekends.

Some responsibilities: Assisting customers find solutions, unloading vendor deliveries, restocking nursery and store, monitoring supplies, creating displays, improving signage, maintaining plants, caring for nursery grounds and adding to the landscapes.
