Calendar for 2008

Rudbeckia
33 Years of Sharing Mountain Horticultural Expertise with Truckee Gardeners. Classes are taught by trained and experienced botanists, landscapers and garden professionals.
Before you experiment, learn from the trials and errors of others (we have years of personal and vicarious mountain gardening experiences to share and we’ve killed thousands of plants in our own gardens already). All classes will be held at the Villager Nursery, 10678 Donner Pass Rd. Pre-registration is requested but drop-ins are often welcome. We like to have an idea of the number of attendees because we put a great deal of time and energy into preparation, We update and print class hand-outs and sometimes provide samples of materials for only so many. Most classes are free of charge but the workshops have minimal materials fees and for those, registration is definitely required. We will cancel or re-schedule if the weather is unbearable. Dress warmly and please bring loads of questions, pictures and samples of plants identification (after each class). The setting is informal and we always have fun. We have benches to sit on but you may want to bring your own more comfortable folding chair

Gardening in the Fall
Fall is a time to accomplish a great deal in your garden before another long winter. October is a time to plant, transplant and redistribute trees, shrubs, bulbs and perennials. Collect seed, propagate cuttings, fertilize, mulch, prepare soil and prepare new beds. Ready the garden for next year's growth. Gardening is ALWAYS about "Next Year". Right now, we have a lot less time to wait until next year. Most deciduous woody plants (trees and shrubs) put on as much as 80% of their annual expansive root growth in the fall…. AFTER they loose their leaves… Really, Fall IS for planting!

Plant now into December for color April – July. Bulbs can be among the brightest stars in a “wildflower” garden and the Villager offers you many wildflower-like bulbs.
